  1. Bevel and emboss, without having to use the faux 3D effects. Beveling and embossing with vector precision would be stunning.

And speaking of the faux 3D . . . what about ACTUAL 3D?! Creating an extrusion, then being able to rotate in Photoshop, Flash, or AfterEffects would be awesome.

Real lighting. Not like Photoshop, but like AfterEffects, where a brand new Light layer is created, that casts actual shadows in z-space. THAT would be fresh.

In other words, I’m not asking for brand new items, just appropriation from Adobe’s other products.

  2. With the comments posted I feel compelled to mention that Adobe actually feel their customers buy Creative Suites in odd numbers, i.e. if you bought the original then you were more likely to buy CS3 and so therefore you’ll now purchase CS5. It seems to be that perhaps buyers of CS4 will not be over impressed by the new CS5 and will upgrade when CS6 hits the shelves.

A strange sort-of assumptions and marketing by Adobe.

    • While I don’t particularly like that as a consumer, it makes some sense from a business perspective. Seems like the only flaw in that plan is that it hurts their customer relationships because if everyone is only buying every other release then that means there is a fair amount of distrust of Adobe’s marketing message.

  3. I completely agree with Nathan and Kerstin. Adobe should slow down a little bit. Let people catch up and learn the programs before they jump in and throw out another upgrade. It would be nice to see Adobe wait a little so they could throw out some big and great advancements to the collection, not these little ones. If they want to keep throwing out little things they might as well put it as a plug-in that we have to buy if we want it. Don’t get me wrong its cool to see how far Adobe has advanced from the start, but at the rate their going it wont be long before we are at CS10 and barely improved from the versions we are at now.

  4. I totally agree with Nathan. Dropping hundreds, even thousands of dollars annually to update to the newest version of Adobe CS to get access to what amounts to nothing more than minor cosmetic changes, a couple fixes and a few neat-but-not-mind blowing add-ons is getting pretty old and frustrating. If you’re trying to get me to buy something new, please make it NEW! Practice what you preach and be CREATIVE, Adobe! I predict the release of 5 will be much like that of 4. But hey, maybe I’ll be proven wrong and CS5 will allow hands-free use, laser beams, and cybernetic implants.

    • Hmm, laser beams and cybernetic implants. Its going to have to include some diagnostic personal robots, and touch tone tablet color palettes included in the box as well.

  5. Thanks for the heads up on the new version.

I have to agree I’m pretty surprised they are coming out with one so soon. I wish they would slow down as I agree it seems to be just for upgrade revenue.

  6. Honestly, I’d like to see Adobe slow down in jumping from one version of the suite to the next. It feels like they are milking that upgrade revenue stream too much. They lose credibility every time they release a new version with supposedly ground-breaking new features that aren’t so ground-breaking. The new features in cs4 by and large are good improvements but they over hyped it and I will be much slower to make the upgrade to cs5+. Take your time and develop truly ground-breaking stuff, take the long-term view, not the short term make-a-quick-buck strategy. Especially when you dominate the market so much, you have the freedom to make longer term investments. My 2¢

  7. friendly with previous versions of illustrator. yeah i know, it’s not gonna happen, but i can hope for it still, can’t i?
i would love to have more powerful blur effects.
